The Gormley camp's other strategy is an attempt to expose the cracks in LoBiondo 's perceived image. The fact that LoBiondo is pro-choice on abortion for women over age 18 is one thing Gormley intends to make an issue in the campaign.

Political candidates thumbing nose at electorate

Only 14 percent of state Assembly candidates and three of the 12 gubernatorial candidates in Tuesday's election returned questionnaires from Project Vote Smart soliciting their views on issues, further demonstrating the contempt incumbents and challengers alike have for the voter.

Project Vote Smart is a bipartisan, good-government group dedicated to providing voters with information they need to make educated choices on Election Day. It posts candidates' responses to the questions and other information about the candidates on its Web site, www.votesmart.org.Participation in Project Vote Smart peaked in 1996, when 72 percent of the congressional candidates nationally completed the questionnaires. The response rates have steadily declined, due in large part to the two major parties advising candidates not to participate. They fear it will limit their ability to control their campaign messages and make them more vulnerable to opposition research.

[Answer: The League of Women Voters asked a similar question, but they didn't come right out and say "abortion." My verbose answer... "I'm pro-choice and pro- religion too, even though I'm agnostic. Why mention? I heard the barest details of Mackenzie Phillips horror story..... Forgetting the few religious leaders who've fallen from grace.... I'm appreciative of religions guiding morals, and think what a Sodom and Gomorrah we'd really have on our hands without the often maligned religious community as a blessed presence. I'm equally appreciative of wise non-religious leaders who lead by example- and are pro choice like me." yada, yada...]
